When I was in High school, my honors English teacher Ms. Purcell changed my life. She taught honors English, but the biggest effect she had on my peers and me was to inspire us to treasure education by using it for change. Ms. Purcell sought to expand her influence by instilling values in kids she knew would have the potential to be leaders in the next generation. The more conversations I have, the more I realize that many people have this kind of a teacher who is their hero and inspired them to follow their dreams with a purpose. However these heroes of the classroom are constrained in the number of lives they can touch by their physical classrooms.

Recently have some educators broken out of this constraint through social media platforms such as YouTube or TikTok, but they are frustrated that these tools are not built for them. And the difficulty of content creation specifically for education means that all-star teachers remain limited in their reach.

 

We believe that, by adding a little bit of structure and helping teachers with content creation, we can facilitate these amazing teachers as they build short lessons that highlight their creative teaching methods, inspirational personalities, and values beyond the material.

By empowering educators in this way, Students win. Chemical Kim, one of our advisors who creates chemistry content on TikTok, has over 1 Million followers from posting fascinating chemistry videos that inspire teens. One of the most common comments on her videos is "I wish I could have a teacher like you, I’d actually like science". Well what if kids could learn from educators like Kim or Ms. Purcell? What if every lesson of every subject was taught by educators who are as engaging, educational, and authentic as they are? That is Edily's vision. We're creating a platform that empowers the most inspirational educators out there to reach and inspire students in the way they tell us they want to learn: mobile, authentic, pithy, and entertaining.
